Jason Wu

Are you ready to be inspired? Jason Wu’s 2011 Resort Collection is a delicious exploration of classic French style à la Coco Chanel. Each piece suggests what it means to be a 21st-century lady. Of course, no one is better equipped than the Taiwanese-born Wu to define what a lady is. Wu came to fame when the fashion-forward Michelle Obama graced her husband’s Inaugural Ball in a one-shoulder ivory gown. Next, Hollywood fell, with Reese Witherspoon, Diane Kruger, and Camilla Belle leading the charge. Here’s a few of my favorites, be sure to ogle more eye candy here!

1. Ruffled cocktail dress. For me, little black dresses are super-indispensable, but flirtatious gowns that come with color and drape is a bolder move. I can totally see this dress on the likes of Diane Kruger and Scarlett Johanssen. Bombshell!

2. Breezy tweed suit. This is Coco Before Chanel, maybe even Wu before Obama? The classic ensemble has been done before, so I’ll call this piece Chanel Suit version 2010.

3. Soiree coat and LBD. What I really love here is the layering, the little black dress ensconced inside the dramatic floral shell.

4. Evening dress. This is very 1930s Hollywood. I can only imagine how the fabric must flutter behind you as you glide down a film noir staircase, not unlike Marlene Dietrich or Joan Crawford at the peak of their glamor.

5. Strapless floral dress. All about ruffles, ruffles, ruffles! And sculpted shoulders. My personal favorite. It looks completely wearable for most body types, and for many years to come, and could easily find its way from a wedding to a girl’s night out of clubbing and celebratory karaoke. Encore!
